Camps and Excursions
Swimming
The DfE Swimming and Aquatics program is an important part of our curriculum and provides the opportunity for all students to develop a range of skills, understandings and attitudes about water safety, survival in the water and mobility in, on and around water. Students from R-5 participate in a week of swimming lessons at the Thebarton Aquatic Centre.
Year 6 students take part in an Aquatics program where they are introduced to a variety of aquatic activities including sailing and canoeing. This takes place at West Lakes. There is a cost to parents for the programs and transport.
Excursions/Camps
Our classes at WPS participate in a variety of workshop and excursions to enhance, provide stimulus and support classroom learning and our curriculum.
We see workshops and excursions as very effective means of motivating our students to participate in and gain practical benefits from a variety of learning experiences. These experiences cannot always happen within the classroom.
Workshops and excursions put into context new concepts and are an exciting and meaningful way to enrich learning. They often provide experiences to extend learning in a particular area eg. when we visit the Art Gallery, Zoo or Botanical Gardens.
Year 5/6 students participate in a school camp every second year. Camps provide a wide range of learning experiences for students and allow for team building opportunities with classes.
